Aguero injury not serious, says Pellegrini

The Argentina international limped out of the 4-1 victory over Stoke City after scoring twice in an emphatic win at the Britannia Stadium but is likely to be fit to face Newcastle
Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini does not expect Sergio Aguero to face another injury lay-off after he limped off against Stoke City on Wednesday.

Aguero scored twice against Stoke City in a convincing 4-1 win at the Etihad Stadium - his first goals since returning from an injury which ruled him out over the Christmas period.

The Argentina international limped off shortly after converting his second goal from the penalty spot, but Pellegrini is hopeful the striker will be fit to face Newcastle United after a round of FA Cup fixtures at the weekend.

“He’s felt something on the back but my feeling is that it is not too serious," Pellegrini told reporters.

And Aguero later allayed fans' fears on social media, taking to Twitter to issue an update.

Pellegrini is now anticipating a return to form for Aguero, who has been sorely missed by the Premier League champions.

He said: “In the way Sergio has more minutes he will score more goals. It is important for him and all the players to come from injuries."

Pellegrini added: “It’s very important for Kun to be fit. If he plays for three months in a row you will see how good he is.
