Williams reject Mercedes bid for Bottas

Mercedes want Williams' Valtteri Bottas as Lewis Hamilton's team-mate

Williams driver Valtteri Bottas is Mercedes' first choice to replace Nico Rosberg as Lewis Hamilton's team-mate, BBC Sport has learned.

But Williams have rejected an initial offer to release Finn Bottas from his 2017 contract.
In a separate development, Mercedes technical boss Paddy Lowe is close to finalising a deal to join Williams.
Lowe is set to be replaced at the world champions by former Ferrari technical director James Allison.

The Mercedes driver conundrum

Mercedes Formula 1 boss Toto Wolff has zeroed in on Bottas as his favoured option as a replacement for Rosberg, who retired five days after winning his first world title last month despite having two further years on his Mercedes contract.

Wolff has approached Williams with a proposal that he gives them a major reduction in their engine bill - said to be in the region of €10m euros (£8.4m); more than half the total fee - in return for releasing Bottas.
Williams also have the option to run Mercedes reserve driver Pascal Wehrlein in Bottas' place.

Wolff, who is part of Bottas' management team, sees the 27-year-old as a close like-for-like replacement for Rosberg - quick, a reliable and consistent points scorer, and relatively easy to manage alongside the more mercurial Hamilton.
Williams have said no to Wolff's first offer but negotiations are expected to continue in the coming days.

Williams' problem with losing Bottas

Williams feel they need an experienced contender in one of their cars next season because their other driver is Canadian rookie Lance Stroll.
The 18-year-old, who won the Formula Three Euroseries in 2016 and comes with a budget reputed to be at least £20m, has been on an extensive test programme intended to prepare him comprehensively for his F1 debut.

But Williams are concerned that partnering him with 22-year-old Wehrlein, who has only one year's experience with the back-of-the-grid Manor team, would be a significant risk to their chances of maximising their championship position.

Each place in the constructors' table is worth millions of pounds.
There is also a complication with Williams' sponsors, among them the drinks giant Martini, for which having two drivers under 25 does not sit well in promotional terms.

German Wehrlein is also in talks with the Swiss Sauber team, which is yet to name a team-mate for Swede Marcus Ericsson.

A week later, Kylie regrammed the image and it was liked by over two million fans - and it appears on t-shirts and a range of merchandise in her online shop, which launches today.

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan has expressed his disappointment at being "detained" by US authorities at Los Angeles International Airport.

It is not clear why Khan was detained, or for how long.
The US ambassador to India has apologised for the detention and said authorities were working to ensure it did not happen again.

In 2012, Khan was detained for 90 minutes at the White Plains airport near New York.
In 2009, he was stopped for two hours at Newark airport. He was released after India's embassy intervened.
Khan, who flew into Los Angeles on Friday, tweeted:



But, the actor added, there was a brighter side to the "detention":




Although there was no comment from immigration officials, the US State Department's assistant secretary on south and central Asian affairs, Nisha Biswal, tweeted to Khan, saying she was "sorry for the hassle", adding that US diplomats also face this situation.


Later, the US ambassador to India, Rich Verma, apologised to Khan.



Some Indians wondered why one of Bollywood's biggest stars was routinely detained at US airports.



In 2012, the actor arrived on a private plane and was on his way to Yale University for a function when he was stopped.
An Indian government minister said at the time that this "policy of detention and apology by the US cannot continue".

US customs and border protection authorities later expressed "profound" apologies for the incident.
Khan had later made light of the incident and joked about it.

"Whenever I start feeling arrogant about myself, I always take a trip to America. The immigration guys kick the star out of stardom," he told a gathering of students at Yale University.
Khan has appeared in more than 70 films and is considered one of India's most recognisable and popular celebrities.

Jamie Vardy has hit out at sick Twitter trolls who targeted his fiancée to make sick sex threats about their child.
The striker, who has fired Leicester City to the top of the league this season against all the odds, was celebrating another incredible win against Southampton yesterday when the vile social media users struck.

They tweeted his partner and mother of their five-year-old child, Rebecca Nicholson, making despicable threats which are too graphic to publish.
However Vardy did share the comments on his Twitter account, which has 236,000 followers.

They were made after his partner posted an image of their daughter onto the social networking site.
She was pictured wearing a "Daddy" Number 9 shirt at the King Power Stadium, where Leicester City play.

He said the comments were "shocking and vile".


Miss Nicholson responded to one of them, saying: "There are no words for people like you! You need locking up."
The accounts - which were ran by Twitter users claiming to be Manchester United fans - are now no longer active.
One has been suspended and others have been deleted.
Fans have rallied around Vardy after seeing the disgusting abuse.

One wrote: "Oh my God - what is this?".
"Report them to the cops," another urged.


Another added: "Jamie, just to point out, not all Manchester United fans are like this, I'm sorry if those idiots have offended you."

England football ace Jack Wilshere was questioned by police in the early hours of Sunday morning as onlookers pleaded: “Jack, don’t get nicked.”
The Arsenal midfielder was interviewed in a rubbish-strewn alleyway, after it is understood he was thrown out of the exclusive Cafe de Paris nightclub in central London.

Exclusive video obtained by the Mirror shows officers patrolling the area talking to the 24-year-old amid chaotic scenes, but no arrests were made.
Millionaire Wilshere, who has not played a competitive game of football since last June due to injury, was moments before seen partying with a group of pals including girlfriend Andriani Michael until the night turned sour.
Shortly before 2am it is understood he became embroiled in an argument inside the club which spilled out onto the street.
A man, understood to be a London nightclub promoter, accused the £90,000-a-week star of striking him and was heard confronting the player as he tried to walk away.
Wilshere has strongly denied any accusation of assault.

 


 


The dad-of-two, heralded as one of English footballs best young talents, was stopped by police who separated the two quarrelling groups and interviewed them separately.
A video, exclusively available on Mirror.co.uk, shows a clearly frustrated Wilshere trying to hide his face with his coat as he peeks out from behind a set of bins.

An onlooker said: “Jack Wilshere came out of Cafe de Paris and stormed across the road. There was a lot of screaming and shouting between his pals and another group, it was complete chaos.
“Two of his mates ushered him down the street closely followed by two girls who appeared to be arguing.
“There were a few people shouting Jack’s name but he kept on walking away. He’s one of the most recognisable faces in English football so lot of people were aware it was him.


“Another man was accusing Jack of assaulting him, he was shouting and definitely trying to get a reaction from the Arsenal player.
“Suddenly around six police officers appeared out of nowhere and luckily split the two groups up, taking them down an alleyway littered with rubbish to speak to them.

“Jack was trying to hide his face with his friend’s jacket when he realised lots of people were looking at him.
“The police kept him there for about half an hour before one his pals got him a taxi and the police escorted him to the waiting cab.”
The Cafe de Paris nightclub is a firm favourite among footballers and soap stars.

 

The nightspot was hosting a birthday party for TOWIE star Harry Derbidge attended by other former cast members such as Amy Childs.

It is not believed Jack was a guest at the party but fellow clubbers took to Twitter to detail Jack’s raucous night out in the popular venue.


Twitter user Ryan Perrin tweeted, but swiftly deleted: “Meeting Jack Wilshere completely off his bonce last night was fuuunny the geezer loves a bev.”

The incident is sure to enrage Arsenal football club chiefs who have been forced to speak to the talented midfielder on several occasions regarding his off the field behaviour.

It is understood Wilshere completely denied the allegation of assault and complied with the officers who arrived to diffuse the situation.

An Arsenal spokesman told the Mirror: “The club is aware of the incident and will be talking about it with Jack.”

During his brief career Wilshere has been no stranger to controversy.
 

 

Wilshere has enraged club bosses after being photographed smoking a cigarette in public during a holiday to Las Vegas in July 2014 with fellow England player and Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

The following February he was pictured again holding a shisha pipe inside a London nightclub.

 


Anti-smoking Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger publicly chastised Wilshere, at the time saying: “I disagree completely with that behaviour.

"When you are a football player you are a role model and you don’t do what damages your health.

“You can damage your health at home, you can drink at home, you can smoke at home and nobody sees it.

“But when you go out socially, you can damage your reputation as an example.”

Despite another frustrating injury-hit season Wilshere is still rated as one of the best young talents in Europe.

Lianne Young, 41, has starred in hundreds of mucky flicks since moving to America - often appearing using the name Billie Britt.

By the time she had made up her mind to go into the porn world, she was a young single mother-of-two living in a council flat.

Lianne, now a TV 'sexpert', says she made the decision to do hard-core pornography to create a better life for her and her children.


She said: "I have certainly never regretted my time in the adult film industry, but it has taken a lot of work for me to be taken seriously in the mainstream media industry.

"I got out when my children reached a certain age, because I thought that was important.
"Though I know women who have been doing it for more than 15 years, and who have teenage sons - which can't be a good thing given how easily accessible porn is online these days.

"I'm a strong believer that all porn sites should require some sort of strong age verification before anyone gets to see anything.

"In fact, I've done a lot of sex education work over the years, because I feel strongly that young people need to know that porn is not normal life."
